Edison Project 7

In Edison Project 7, we are going to study about one of my most favorite subjects, magnetism!  You can't see it, you can't feel it, you can't hear it, you can't smell it, and you can't taste it, but magnetism is at work every day all around us.  Magnetism reminds me so much of the presence of God!  His hand is at work all around us every day of our lives.  The more you look the more you can see His wonderful work.

Studying/playing with magnetism when I was very young is one of the reasons I became so interested in electronics and became an electronics technician, circuit designer, and then an electronics teacher!  Magnetism is so cool and interesting I love to learn about it and teach about it!

Edison Project 7 will be the best project yet!

Topics for discussion include:

  1. What makes a magnet, a magnet?

  2. How do electromagnets work?

  3. MMF or Magnemotive Force

  4. EMF (Electro Motive Force)

  5. Back EMF or Counter EMF

  6. Inductors

  7. Magnetic Fields

  8. Magnetic Field Strength

  9. Magnetic Flux

  10. Solenoids (Electromagnets)

  11. How to determine the polarity of a coil magnet

  12. Increasing the strength of a coil magnet

  13. Permeability of Materials

  14. How a coke machine works

  15. How electronic door locks work
